I'm sure this has been asked a million times and expected it to be a sticky - but can't find anything
I'm looking for a good/reliable/cheap email address that is me@mycompany and not a generic (cheap looking) hotmail/gmail etc.
I don't need a website but seem to have to buy the domain to have the email? I also want that email to auto forward to my gmail.
So in short, if i'm emailed at me@mycompany it will appear in my gmail account - can anyone suggest a sensible option/company please?

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

If your wanting to use Google then simply but the domain from the likes of 123-reg and once the registration process is complete you can go into the DNS editor and amend the MX record to point at Google's servers. Then within Googles site you can create the mail boxes etc.
There are plenty of help files and walkthroughs on how to use gmail.0 -
Or even simpler, if you use easily.co.uk (or many other registrars, I just know for a fact easily offer it) you can have the email forwarded to your GMail account, then once that's set up (allow a few hours for the DNS propagation) then in GMail you set up the 'send as' so mail appears to come from your domain. No MX records to touch, and it works well. You can even have several different domains and accounts all forwarding to/from the same GMail box, you just pick which address you're sending 'from' when you are composing an email0

This does work, but will reveal your own gmail address when you "send as". Your recipient will see "sent on behalf of you@gmail" in the from field.
This is required so your mails are not stopped by anti spam.
I think InsideInsurance is referring to Google Apps mail. I use this
for my own email and it is like having your own personal mail server. The free version of Google Apps allows 10 email addresses. @yourdomain.
There was some MX record setup to be done but this was well worth it to get rid of "sent on behalf "
EDIT: Just received a mail from Google, as of today (8/12/2012) they are no longer accepting sign ups to the free version of Google Apps.

Ah yes, see what you mean, although it is only in the header, frankly never caused me any issues... Horses for courses, if the business sector requires clean headers (even though the IP still points to the google HA) then its worth a few quid I agree, just wanted to make the options known0

I believe that you can use http://domains.live.com/ who do a similar thing to google apps.0
