job application not going through online

I filled in the online application for a job that I would very much like last night, however when I got to the end of filling it in and went to press the APPLY button all I got was

Value too long for field "ED_ESTAB".
and it just takes me back to the APPLY button screen again. My application is saved in their site so I have tried logging out and then logging back in, even getting my brother to try and send it on his computer for me, same result everytime. I have emailed the company and am trying to get through to them on the phone too but just wondered if anyone on here had any idea what the above meant or why Im struggling to get the application to send :o

Is there a field on this application form that you can relate to ED_ESTAB e.g. Educational Establishment? Could you try entering less characters into this field - use an abbreviation?

What this tells me is that their online application form checking is not user-friendly ... the error message would not be meaningful to a lot of people.

However, if this is a web design job then you should have been able to easily work it out yourself. ;):D

Basically you have failed the intelligence test incorporated into the on-line application form and e-mailing the company was not a smart move as they will have marked your card now.

    Keep looking!

Not necessarily as this looks like php code which you would not be able to investigate as a user as that would be server side :)
  • I know this is an old thread but my wife also had this problem recently.
It appertains (like previous contributors have said) to the Education Establishment part of the form, i.e. the Address of the school/college etc. Whilst on the edit page, right click and open Page Source, then in the page that opens, use Control F5 and enter ED_Estab to find it. You should see your entered info somewhere near. There will also be a Value = This is sometimes mainly set to 40 for some reason, so keep all your addresses less than 40 including spaces, commas etc.
