Engine Systems Fault on Ford Focus?

Hi All,
I've got an '08 Ford focus diesel and over the last few weeks the Engine Systems Fault warning has come up, but when I restart the car it's gone again. Also, when I accelerate fairly hard there's a sound similar to when the fan is on a high setting.
I don't want to pay a garage a load of money to be told it's something simple I can do myself, any ideas?

Probably needs plugging in to a diagnostic machine to read the fault codes, that's typically £45 or so.
The noise you describe might be turbo related, hard to tell without actually hearing it.

You could try resetting the onboard computer:

Do you by any chance do lots of short journeys? It could be what's called a diesel particulate filter warning. Have a read here to see what they do:

If you haven't been on a decent motorway run for a while then you could try now...Slowly reducing my 8.5k of debt!0 -
Just get an OBD2 code reader (about £20); plug it in the diagnostic socket and read/reset the code(s). No need to pay £45 or so to have a garage do that.0

Buy your own reader, Its cheap enough.
Basic ones from £10 ish.. Mor advanced ones than can read lve data from £40.
Depends if you want something to read and reset the code. Or more detailed information.
Leave it plugged in as you drive to record the data and see what causes the fault. Just dont assume the code is the problem.
Code for fuel pressure maybe the pump the garage try to flog you for £1000, But it maybe a £20 fuel filter.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I have the same car and the same problem. And to make it worse ive just found the bloody bonnet lock is broke.... did you manage to find and fix the problem? If so, what and how much was it ?

Without reading your fault codes the fault could be anything. Dodgy sensor, Fuel pressure. Injectors, Pump etc etc etc...
You just need the code(s) reading. You dont need to open the bonnet to read them.
