Travel Insurance Question

Afternoon All,
I was hoping to get some reassurance about a travel insurance claim i made recently.
In March i booked a holiday for my girlfriend and i to Egypt at the end of November (the 27th to be exact) It cost about £1000 which i paid for in full.
Unfortunately, on the 30th October i was diognosed with Testicular cancer and needed and urgent operation. At this consulation i was advised that i would need to cancel my holiday (with my operation being a couple of week's after the initial diognosis and them telling me i would need a minimum of 2 week's rest and recuperation afterwards)
The day after my diognosis i contacted the travel agent, who informed me that unfortunately they would be unable to make a full refund, but that they would give me 40% of the booking and advised me to pursue the rest from my travel insurance.
At this point i contacted my insurer (on the 31st October), Axa via my Lloyds TSB account. They where sympathertic and arranged to send me over the claim's form's. These i completed along with my GP (who they asked to complete a medical form confirming i was unfit to travel) by the end of the first week in November.
They told me it would take about 2 week's to process my claim. After 2 week's they cam back to me requesting some additional information (which unfortunately was a duplicate of information i had already sent them) which i provided again.
This was about 7 day's ago. I chased them up today and was told that my case was under review and they would contact me within 5-7 working days. I get the impression that they are fobbing me off as this seem's and awefully long time for what is a relitively small claim.
Has anyone dealt with Axa before, do they always take this long?
I think i have quite a straightforward case, does anyone see any flaws in it? I'm a little concerned that even though i paid for 100% of the holiday they will only want to pay out for half of it as there was to be 2 people on the trip, me and my partner, will they only want to pay out 50% of the money because of this?
BTW i have provided them with proof that i paid for 100% of the holiday.
My issue is compounded by the fact that my partner has no seperate travel insurance, because we cancelled the trip several week's before we where due to travel she had not arranged this yet.

My claim with Axa was handled relatively quickly however you are at the start of the bad weather season where insurers start to get inundated with claims due to missed/ cancelled flights etc as well as the usual winter spike of sickness.
Of cause white labels like Lloyds TSB can pay the providers like Axa to either prioritise their cases or pay less and allow Axa to take longer0 -

I am not an expert but would have thought that they would not pay out for your partner. She should have purchased insurance when you first booked the trip.0 -

Your partner's lack of any insurance doesn't compound your issue - unless you are attempting to add the partner's holiday cost to your claim!0 -

With our claim the only delay was them asking for proof that my then fiancee had been living with me for 6 months (as required by the policy)0 -
AXA are huge and generally good. As another poster said above, they're just busy. If they don't reply back to you however in 7 days like they said, just push them again and post back here!0
