you probably won't notice much of an performance boost from the 1.7 cpu (if its a p4) to the 3.2ghz celeron tbh.
  • sorry for the delay in thanking you both but computer was poorly just got back on line.

  • Well, as a vague comparison for power requirements - at the moment im running the following with a 400w power supply....

    Core 2 Duo E6400
    2Gb RAM
    2 x 400Gb SATA2 harddisks
    1 x 200Gb SATA2 harddisk
    X1900 XT ATI gfx card
    1 DVD burner

Is this a shuttle, as in portable shoe-box style shuttle? I had a 300 watt supply in my one and it had no problem with ANY of the hardware I threw at it. It came with a 240 watt supply originally but I upped it for a slightly better spec.

I'm running an Athlon64 3500 with 2x1GB RAM, an ATi 9800 XT, 2 hard drives, 2 optical drives, all that out of a Seasonic 300W PSU (plus half a dozen fans, a couple USB things on occasions and an internal Zip drive, but that doesn't add up much).
It works flawlessly and it's on 24/7.

the AK32A is a full size atx mobo made by shuttle, not one of the shoe box wonders.

What you are likely to find is that old psu will not have the needed cabling to attach to newer motherboards,
    if it has the
    - 20 pin ATX power connector
    and
    - 4 pin 12V power connector
    you should be ok
  • Gib-Gib,
thanks for that was concerned but it did have the additional 12v plug so at the moment all running ok.
