New to mains gas
Well I will be when I move, I understand gas meters come in two different readings, old and new or metric and imperial.I would just like to know the equivalent unit so I can keep my eye on the usage.I don't know which type I will have till I move in, never thought of asking, just preparing myself

i don't really know why you need to know this ? you are new to gas so you have nothing to compaire it too, even if you were already used to having gas every house is different in the amount of gas you will use, if your meter is in feet so will the gas bill & the same for m3I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
1 cubic metre (m3) is about 11 kWh. Metric meters use the left 5 digits, the remainder are fractions of a m3 and ignored.
100 cubic foot (100ft3) is about 32 kWh. On an imperial meter you use the left 4 digits, the remainder are fractions of 100ft3 and ignored.
Your gas bill will be in kWh used for the period. The actual kWh you get out of the gas varies a bit over time and location and your bill will have conversion factors showing this.
Gas is about 7p a kWh for the first xx units a month, 3p for the remaining units (depending on tariff) so 1 m3 on the gas meter will cost about 70-80p. However, that's typically a third of the price of electricity.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Many thanks Owain that was the answer I needed.0
