Hi there,
Parked on a street around 8pm. Sign stated -
Got ticket at 21.03 for parking contravention code 01 - parking on a restricted road during prescribed hours.
Do I have a case here for appeal? The ticket was from a local authority.

Need to see the actual sign, as the lines on it separating the bits of text, and other symbols can reveal much. What it may mean is that between 8am and 6pm it's residents parking or parking with a P&D ticket, but outside those hours it's residents only.hieveryone wrote: »Hi there,

Definitely appeal, on grounds of contravention didn't occur. You may then have to go on (once they reject it) to provide further representations around ambiguous signage. You should ask the council in the appeal for the TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) for the street, which will spell it out in black and white.
You may also want to try the Pepipoo forum for council tickets. They'll want to see the PCN itself (front and back, redacted of your personal/car details) and, preferably, photos of the sign.0 -
I've got a picture of the sign on my phone, but have typed it out pretty much as it appeared. Only difference was a letter K next to the residents part.
The street in question is around 50 miles away so not sure whether appealing this is going to be more hassle than it's worth?

What's the problem with it being 50 miles away? It's not like you have to go there. If you are going to give up that easily, why did you come here in the first place? It is always worth appealing council tickets. If you are prepared to go all the way, and with the help of Pepipoo, you have a very high chance of getting it cancelled.hieveryone wrote: »I've got a picture of the sign on my phone, but have typed it out pretty much as it appeared. I agree with the Slithy Tove, appeal! Are you sure there wasn't another sign above or below it which covered the later time? And 01 is for being parked on a single or double yellow line, did you realise? It's not for the bay at all - that sign is completely irrelevant to your PCN!
Anyway, pepipoo is here:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30
Read a few threads first to get the gist, then start your own new topic with your pic of the sign (even though it's not really relevant) and a close up picture of both sides of the PCN. Please do NOT type it out like you did above (easy to make mistakes such as calling the offence 'restricted 'road' when it's actually 'restricted street' isn't it?).
Most people win appeals against Council PCNs in the end. I do not mean at this first appeal stage, but in the end if you are up for senidng a few letters and doing some research with pepipoo's help. All you risk is possibly being told in the end by an adjudicator to pay the full (non-discounted bribe) anyway. As long as you reply to all letters, none must be ignored, there are no extra costs for stringing it out, and as I say, most people win.
If not, then pay at the discount and forget it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

What you've typed out looks very familiar and even more so now you've mentioned the letter "K". Was it in Brighton or Hove ?All aboard the Gus Bus !0 -

Having looked into it, people are mentioning taking photos from all angles, of the road, signs etc. I don't have the time to do this.
It states on the ticket that if I appeal I lose the right to the discount.
It is a company car so if it goes past the appeal stage they end up just paying it anyway and taking out of my salary.
Maybe easier just to pay up. And not park on the street!

Give us the location on google earth then, just to tell you that getting a council PCN turned over requires work and effort, if you want to appeal it also requires self help, if all this is beyond you for whatever reason just pay the ticket and get on with your life. IMO it's worth an informal appeal as it works sometimes and they still offer you the discount periodExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

PAY IT at the discount then, honestly it's one of the few situations where you should - but obviously only for proper Council/Police parking tickets (never pay a private parking charge notice as they are a scam).
And as I said, you are on a hiding to nothing with reference to that sign because 01 is for being on a double or single yellow.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you.
That is a question for another time, as the company do not allow individuals to make appeals.
I've had a private (i.e scam) ticket previously and notified HR of my intention NOT to pay it based on advice etc, and they went ahead and paid it - at the highest rate! Took it out of salary too.

Check carefully your employment contract and the terms & conditions you agreed to on taking on a company vehicle. Unless either explicitly allows such payroll deductions, then they cannot do this, and could land themselves in trouble for doing so. It is HIGHLY unlikely this is the case, as a private ticket will almost certainly NOT come under such Ts&Cs.hieveryone wrote: »I've had a private (i.e scam) ticket previously and notified HR of my intention NOT to pay it based on advice etc, and they went ahead and paid it - at the highest rate!
