No fault claim help

Options
Last week my 08 Ford Ka got shunted at a junction (so low speed impact). Just heard from my insurance company today that the cost of repair is on the cusp of the value of the car (I put it down as 2800 in May) so they had referred it to the other driver's insurarers to see if they agre to the repair or to write it off. I would prefer to keep it but appreciate this is out of my hands. My concern is that if the insurance companies agree to write it off I will not get a decent offer for the value of my car. I have no experience of this situation at all so would be grateful for any advice.

You can get quotes yourself for repairs. if they are low enough and the insurer accepts that the repairs can be done at that price safely (you will have to prove this afterwards) then they should give you the money for the repairs. See "Cash in lieu" for further information. You're not guaranteed it - it's the insurer's discretion.

Get yourself a quote to get it fixed cheaper. Tell the garage your only 3rd party
or been offered the car cheap and want to buy it if the repairs are cheap enough.

When you tell them its being paid for by the insurance the price can jump a fair bit.

Then see if they are willing to pay that figure or more and let you keep the car.
