Which coffee pod machine is best?

There's too many to choose from!

I want to spend about £70 - £90 and would like a machine that has reasonably priced pods and has a decent range of different drinks available - the price of the pods is a big factor for me, I dont want to splash out on a machine and find I cant afford the refills! I'd ideally like it to be easy to clean and one where the coffee actually tastes nice! I like Starbucks style mild, sweet frothy lattes and hot chocolates.

I've briefly looked at Senseo, Nespresso and Tassimo but would be interested in others if anyone has any recommendations.

Thank you

  • The Dolce Gusto has a caramel latte, vanilla latte and chocochino all sold through their web site £3.70 ish for 8 drinks (16 pods but 8 are flavour & 8 milk) machines £50 at the moment too.

  • I am very happy with my Nespresso Pixie....out of the price range but I think they are doing a £40 cash back option right now

Nespresso is in a different league to the Senseo/Tassimo/Dolce Gusto - suggest you try them side by side before making a decision.

When pricing bear in mind that Nespresso uses fresh milk (and therefore needs the Aeroccino milk frother or something similar whereas the others use milk powder pods which double the cost of the milk based drinks.

ETA this comes in within your budget when you take into account the GBP40 of free coffee/accessories you'd get http://www.johnlewis.com/231746228/Product.aspx

We have a nesspresso in the office and I just put the milk in the microwave for 1 minute, then add the coffee to that same mug.. it's quite nice!

Capsules are pricy but on ebay you can buy cheap empty shells that you can refill with cheaper coffee...

PLEASE don't do the EBAY shell route....cheap compromise, nothing more

My thoughts exactly - if you're not enticed by the Nespresso quality/simplicity then buy a cheaper machine/system - simples
  • Nespresso is very good for coffee, not the hot choc, sweet lattes etc the OP asked about...

Good point but with the Aeroccino attachment I've no problems making perfect hot chocolate either with melted chocolate or the addition of good powder

For flavoured lattes etc nothing beats the same syrups all the coffee houses use

The new Nespresso flavoured pods are good. My favourite is Hazelnut.
