Redundancy Pay a mix-up?????

I was made redundant around 3 weeks ago and the company gave me a letter stating, and also a copy of the minutes from the meeting that day,i would receive a redundancy and compensation payment within a week, which i understood to be a months salary as i was not given a months notice and finished that day,and also any salary owed,in December's monthly pay.
The payment has not been paid and they are now saying it was a mix up and i am not entitled to any redundancy pay as i was employed at the company for less than 2 years!
Would they have to either give me a months notice or a months salary if finishing me straight away,as per my contract of employment?
Any advice would be welcome.Thanks.
