Hi folks,

My partner has lost her her samsug galaxy s2 about a few hours ago when out and about, thinks she lost it on local high street, no insurance.

Don't have much hope of getting it back I think, been to the local orange shop, who have put a ban on outgoing calls on it.

They say that we should call orange tonight to put a full ban on phone and that phone won't be of any use to person who finds it as it is listed now as a lost or stolen phone.

Are they correct in saying this? small comfort if who ever finds it is not honest and tries to get it unlocked or tries to use it again.

I notice that we try to ring the phone it rings 7 times, and then message on my phone, call failed.

No tracking apps on it either.

Thanks for any help,
Martin57

Call the network immediately to request that the SIM is barred. If she doesn't, any calls run up on the SIM until she notifies the network that it is lost she will be liable for.

The bar you're talking about is an IMEI bar. Request this too and then the handset will be rendered useless by whoever finds it.

Thanks for replies and suggestion about tracking app, though she doesn't remember her play store email as it was her daughter who set it up for her.

Put the full ban on it now anwyays so hoping for the new sim within 4 working days they say.

Any suggestions as regards a replacement phone around the £100 mark with a decent size screen and speaker phone capability?

Thanks again for all the help.

do the obvious, retrace steps exactly and ask all shops if it's been handed in, also pop into the local police station to make a report. If they don't have it handed in, leave details of the phone, imei number etc in case it's "found" in the future.
Also if there is a small shopping complex approach the security to ask about it too.

Otherwise call up Orange now for a full ban, just in case the shop didn't do anything. Note the time/number and operator name for further references.

Just seen your reply, I'd go get a cheapy (£10-30) phone for now so that at least she has something she can use, then either negotiate with orange to see if they do any refurbs in special cases (ie lost or stolen) replacement handsets, or sit and wait to see what other xmas offers come up on phones, or new year sales.

Report lost at the local police station and get a reference number.

Does your house insurance cover the replacement?
