Hi,

The circuit that suppies our mains smoke detectors isn't working.

The circuit breaker test switch does nothing. My question is does this switch stop working if there is a break in the circut or does this mean the cirtuit breaker is dead or not getting any power from the consumer unit.

Cheers

Dave

    The 'Test' button only works when power is supplied to the inlet side of the switch.
    Use a multimeter to verify.
  • What make is it?

    The ones I come across that usually fail are Proteus or Chint / CDG.

    The item does have to be powered for the test button to work

    If it isn't working then it's a saftey issue and should be addressed.

    It is Wylex. I have left it switched off for now till I can get a spark to swap it out.
  • If it's Wylex you need to know about the product recall.

    If it was installed 2009-2010 you need to read this;

    That's one reason I don't use Wylex.
