UK Christmas markets - recommendations needed

I've never been to a Christmas market, and as I can't afford a trip to Europe, I'm looking for one in the UK which I can go and visit for a day, probably next weekend (15th or 16th).
Can anyone recommend a good one? I'm travelling from Cambridge, and don't want to spend too much on travel, but I can investigate costs once I've got some ideas on where to go.
Ideally I'd like to go somewhere where the town/city is nice and historic (eg not Birmingham) too, and that will sell gifts, decorations, etc (not so bothered about food).
I hope some of you have some ideas for me! Thanks in advance :T

Like greenface said it's a bit far, but the Manchester Christmas markets are brilliant and it's a really cool town too.0

Never said Mankchester was a cool town . Overated and bad and 2 decades of luck football teams. But good markets . Best thing Mankchester has to offer is its close to Merseyside. (I maybe a little Biased) hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
