What are they like at your surgery, mine are godzillas.I was put on some more medication and told by the gp i needed a blood test every month for 3 month,my 1st appointment came and i was too ill to attend so i cancelled and rearranged, during the call i was told they will not send a nurse out to me(i never asked),the 2nd appointment came and i was still bedridden so cancelled again but explained i needed the blood tests doing as requested by the gp,again they said they will not send a nurse out so i asked why,we only send a nurse out to the elderly was there reply. When i said i have severe mobility problems and pointed out that it's not just the elderly who are immobile she said that is how it is and make another appointment when you can attend.

Ours tend to be quite grouchy....but they do a horrible, thankless job...So I can kinda understand that....0

They do get grief i understand that but why take it out on everyone else0

The receptionists at my health centre are really helpful! They always seem to go the extra yard - chasing up test results, etc and ringing back when they say they will. Hospital consultants' secretaries on the other hand...........[0

My current GP's receptionists are fine but the ones previous were a HORRIBLE, NASTY bunch of women. Rude, abrupt & unhelpful. To say their job is thankless and horrible is not right. There are a lot worse jobs they could be doing. They should appreciate that they sit behind a desk, in a warm office. There are MANY people that would willingly swap jobs with these imbeciles.0

My ex mother-in-law was a GPs receptionist and she was evil to the patients. I know why she was so good at it, she used me for practice!!!0

Personally, you couldn't pay me enough to sit their all day surrounded by coughing, sneezing, vomiting chavs, drunkards and miscreants, with people calling up every day saying "I've stubbed my toe! Let me see the doctor! Has the doctor looked into my cheese allergy yet? I only ate 5 kilos last week, but I'm still putting on weight! Do I have an appointment to see the doctor? I can't remember...No? Can I book one then? What for? I can't remember..."...and every frustration of every patient is vented on you when the doctor doesn't tell them what they want to hear, can't see them, can't go and visit their child, refer them to a nurse or do any other thing that is *just their job to do*...honestly, I can think of few worse jobs in this world.0 -
Mine are unfailingly lovely, although I visit the doctor rarely. Always got an appointment when I needed one, and have never been asked intrusive questions.0

My mum was a GP's receptionist and what a lot of people who moan about them don't get is that they are just doing what the GPs tell them. The GPs would tell the receptionists what to say and do in different situations and when to let people have appointments etc. The GP would even IM the receptionist telling them what to say to a patient. Yet, the patients would always be moaning about the cows working behind reception. I found it odd because in no other job would the public assume that the minions are making policy decisions behind the boss's back.0

well, I hardly ever go to the dr, but when I went earlier this week the lady was pleasant. She was very stressed due to being busy & the computers went down for a few mins but she told everyone what was happening & why there would be a delay, and she seemed pleasant, efficient and I would have no complaint about her at all.0
