Please could someone explain as Im confused ( its easily done) the cheapest and easiest way.

We are staying at a hotel at wembley . We travel from Leeds by train Friiday morning ( to kings cross) and return Sunday morning.

At wembley is it so that there are 3 stations? 2 tube and one is a railway station ( apparently the railway station is nearest the ibis hotel) .

So am I right in thinking that we get off at kings cross, take a tube to Marlybone, then catch a train to wembley?

I have applied for an oyster card. Can this be used on this journey and how much will it need topping up by if we go into london friday night and again around london saturday day?

Thanks

Mark

All you need to do is change to the Metropolitan Line (Underground) at Kings Cross which will take you straight to Wembley Park. It's only about five stops.
I think the cost on Oyster will be £2 or thereabouts. Definitely use Oyster as it's much cheaper than paying cash.

If you did want to go from Marylebone there's no easy tube from Kings Cross but the 205 bus does it.
    Can I help?

If you have a PAYG Oyster it depends which Wembley station:

Journeys on Chiltern Railways that can be made using pre-pay are those between Amersham and London Marylebone (and all intermediate stations) and those between West Ruislip, South Ruislip and London Marylebone (but NOT for journeys to or from Northolt Park, Sudbury Hill Harrow, Sudbury & Harrow Road or Wembley Stadium).

Pre-pay can NOT be used to pay for any other journeys on Chiltern Railways. Tickets for journeys using Chiltern Railways services, to stations other than those mentioned above, must be purchased before boarding the train, unless no ticket purchase facilities are available. Penalty Fares apply.

Marylebone is 5 minutes walk from Baker Street

Thanks, think Im getting it now.

The station we really want is called wembley central , but it would seem a number of changes needed from Kings cross so possibly better to wembley park and having a 10 - 15 minute walk?

Still one thing Im confused about . If I went to wembley central could I catch a tube into london there as well as a train? ( to marylebone)

Also, If I use an oyster card there is no need to buy a day or 3 day pass because if I make many journeys it works out the cheapest way possible?

    Thanks

It appears that the closest station to Ibis is Wembley Stadium (2 mins walk). Wembley Central is 20 mins walk away, and Wembley Park is 19 mins walk away.

Oyster pay as you go is not currently valid for journeys to and from Wembley Stadium. If you wanted to take this route, the fare from Marylebone is £3.10 per person. If you use Oyster pay as you go to get you to Marylebone, this will be £1.50 - that's £4.60 in total, which is cheaper than getting a through ticket from Kings Cross. A through ticket from Kings Cross to Wembley Stadium would be £6.10 per person.

Oyster pay as you go from Kings Cross to either Wembley Central or Wembley Park would be £2.00. Like rdwarr says, there's a direct train to Wembley Park from Kings Cross - if you went to Wembley Central instead, you'd have to change at Baker Street for the Bakerloo line, and it would probably take longer.

If you're coming in on the First Capital Connect service, then you may find that it stops at West Hampstead. If so, then using Oyster pay as you go from here to Wembley Park will be only £1.50 per person, and this will probably be much quicker than staying on the train until it gets to Kings Cross and then travelling back out again.

Wembley Central has a rail service to Euston as well as the Bakerloo tube to Baker Street and central London.
Wembley Stadium has a train service to Marylebone
Wembley Park has two tube (Met and Jubilee) services to Baker Street, etc. The Marylebone trains pass without stopping.

If you are coming from Leeds forget about FCC - you won't be using them.
  • Hi,

I will be staying at the IBIS Wembley soon and intend to take the train from Wembley Stadium into Marylebone. I believe that it is possible to use the oyster card to pay for the journey. However, I need help as to whether it is cheaper to pay by oyster or to pay for the tickets, as I will have my wife and two children (3 and 1) with me and we have a family railcard.

We plan to travel on the underground a few times as well that day, so don't know whether that makes any difference.

Also interested whether anyone has stayed at the IBIS wembley and know how much the car park costs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

Oyster PAYG is now valid at Wembley Stadium (it wasn't when the earlier posts in this thread were written)

Your choices are a one day travelcard for each adult (£6.30 off peak, £10 peak) or PAYG Oyster which caps at 50p discount off these prices but requires a deposit to be paid.

    The kids travel free.

Not 100% sure, but I don't think the family railcard helps

Friends and family railcards do attract a discount on an all zone travelcard, IF purchased from, what I would call a BR station. this reduces the off peak, adult price to £5 kids still £1.
