Hi there all.
I am currently in the process of removing 10 ton of gravel from my garden so we can have a lawn.
Please can you advise me on the following. I need 50 square meters of lawn.
I am aware seed is the cheapest but is it good to sow at this time of year, and any hints and tips in doing so?:D

It's all in the preparation of the ground, remove any stones, put down fertilizer about a week before you sow the seed, which can be put down between March and September, after sowing, bed must not dry out, use a hose with a fine spray.0

Seeds - you have to be prepared to deal with the weeds too.0

Hello bengraves38
I'll move your thread to the 'Greenfingered' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. As has been said it's all in the preparation whether you lay turf or sow seed. Seed is far cheaper and now is a good time for sowing. You can buy different kinds of seeds for different uses - you can have a tough kind of grass or go for a bowling green. Keep it watered and don't be tempted to try to mow it until it is well established or it is likely to be torn out.0

All I can advise is that if you have grass seed and there are lots of cats or birds in the vicinity (unlikely to have both though!
) then you'll need to keep it covered with chicken wire or something to stop them eating it/digging it up.
My brother has bought some rolls from B&Q at £2.48 a roll and it looks quite good, but I bet you could get it cheaper if you look in your YP, Thomson or local paper.
Obviously with turf you get an immediate effect too rather than having to wait to see if it grows!
Good luck - I've just dug all mine up to put decking down! Pesky cats (mine!) kept cr@pping in it! :rolleyes:0
