Hi Folks!
My husband is in the process of setting up his own business and our Epson CX3600 printer broke midway through printing out his essential paperwork...it started feeding through the paper at a funny angle and jamming, the man at the local computer shop said try printing out on a piece of card to make sure there's no bits of paper stuck in it, try tipping it upside down and shaking it, if that didn't work, better buy new as it would be £50 for looking at it. Ho hum. It didn't work, so when an Epson DX3800 came up on Freecycle, we couldn't believe our luck. We got it this morning but I can't get it to connect to the computer.
The computer seems to recognise that there's a DX3800 attached to it, but it won't print from it. We don't have any software with the printer, and I'm pretty stuck as to what to try. We're on Windows XP, if that's any help with the diagnosis? The lovely chap who gave us hasn't tried it (luckily our leads fit) so we don't know if it works ok, etc. The lights are on so someone's home though!!!
If it's impossible, I wonder if anyone can recommend a decent/cheap but reliable all in one printer/scanner/copier we could get to replace our pile of dead ones?? I'll be freecycling the dead one(s), mind you, I'm sure someone could use the parts.
Thanks loads in advance,
Lucy

You can download the DX3800 software from the link below -

Try installing the software (with the printer disconnected), then connect the printer. You should find that it then springs to life.0 -
Hi! Thanks a lot for replying so quickly.
I've tried to download the software, it does say it's downloaded successfully, but with no icons or anything showing on the programmes menu.
When I connect the printer up, it doesn't link up with the download at all iyswim? I'm wondering what I might be doing wrong (probably something glaringly obvious..!) Slightly losing the will to live, it's frustrating not knowing the technical side!
All help would be very much appreciated. Thinking about getting a new printer as it's so frustrating...the man in Staples said the Brother DCP 130 C is good but would prefer to fix this if possible..all comments on this Brother one would be gratefully received, too.
Thanks again everyone

If you downloaded the file marked 'Driver', you should have a file stored on your PC called epson31883eu.exe
You need to go to Start > Search, enter the filename above, and let the PC find where you have downloaded it to. Once found, simply double-click the file, and follow any on-screen prompts.0 -
You should phone epson before you pronounce the old one dead!
Ask for tech support 9am to 5pm Epson customer services
01952 607119, They will know what the error is about
and what to do if anything0 -

The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
