Well, I don’t know much about dogs as we’ve never had one – not for wanting one but because of the circumstances (both husband and myself work full time + commute), would not be fair to have one/two - hence we settled for cats (and very happily so, I must add).Anyway, I’ve read this thread with interest and am so pleased that the outcome turned out for the best for the dog. My bet is that the original owner will not be demanding the puppy back after few days. They seem to be taken with the idea of having a dog but not so much the reality of having one and that I believe is very common these days. People like the best bits of having a pet; the cuddliness, the unconditional love, etc…. but are not prepared to put up with the demands and expense of looking after an animal properly and meeting its needs – hence ending up with a lose/lose situation – unhappy animal that will no doubt demonstrate its feelings they only way they can; growling, having behavioural issues, etc…Sadly nowdays the ‘throw away’ culture prevails and gets extended to pets that end up paying the price. And Xmas is coming with shelters already full… before we get to the spring and the novelty has worn off.Sorry, rant over. Maybe the dog should be renamed ‘Lucky’ or ‘Fortuna’ Hope you’ll have many wonderful years together.0

OP - you have done the right thing, if you would feel more confident with some legal advice on how you stand, you may have a free legal helpline on your home insurance, or on the liability policy that you may have in place for your dog walking/sitting business. This could put your mind at rest and let you respond to the previous owner with "I have taken legal advice............."
Sadly not all people that take on a pup are of low intelligence/stupid/skint; they just have no perspective of a dogs needs; having money and being able to afford a dog sitter and all vets fees does not make you a good owner. Often they get a puppy as they only have the rose tinted view of how cute it will be for the kids, and how lovely it will look in photos, and try to live the Sunday Supplement dream. Come the day it chews the Prada handbag, poops on the floor, or rolls in fox do - they haven't got a clue (Flip knows how they coped with their kids!).
Well done you!! :T:T0
