Hi all. I am looking at getting my 10yr old son a tablet as a gift from the grandparents, their budget is £70.
Firstly, does anybody have any recommendations for this budget?
He will mainly use if for Apps/games, viewing pics and videos poss. Any suggestions for where to buy/ brand/ what to look for?
I am afraid we are total novices to this kind of technology, we have a laptop and desktop PC and that is about the limit!! :rotfl:

Never owned one and never used one so I have no clue what they are like.
Maybe this link will give you some idea of prices.

There are very few worthwhile tablets for under £100 I'm afraid. Most are slow and unreliable running old versions of Android which could be bemusing to a 10-year old. How technologically savvy is your son?
The new Amazon Kindle Fire was the best deal I've seen during the Black Friday weekend at £99, but that's obviously over now - so £129.
You need to be aware there are many dodgy tablets out there too with fake reviews making them seem great, but the truth is they're manufactured cheaply with poor build quality in the far east. Generally anything until £100 you'll need to look at really carefully and check reviews in a number of different places.
There are some genuine cheap tablets out there which may be okay, the Sumvision Tablets can sometimes be found for under £100 (there is one on Ebuyer at the moment for £80).
Have you found any you're tempted by? It might be easier if you post what you've found and I can comment further.0 -
It would be hard to find decent spec under £70 IMO.
Is £80 OK for you?

With £70, you probably able to find something like these. (make sure you order from seller dispatch from UK)

Those "capacitive touch" ones are exactly the ones I'd suggest avoiding. Many of the reviews (not all) are fake (google some of them to see them stolen off other genuine products).
These tablets are actually worthless in my opinion. Typically purchasers are disappointed with performance and certain aspects of the hardware commonly fail within 6 months. Sure you can send back under warranty, but it would only disappoint in the long-run.
The Sumvision one is a safer bet, and was the one I referred to in my post above, but really there is very little other choice.0 -
Here are two sites that are in the UK
http://www.futeko.com/browse.php?cat=tablet
http://www.gtrelectronics.co.uk/
I have used Futeko for a media player that is 3yrs old still working.( they replaced a power supply under guarantee no problem)
I have just ordered a 7" tablet from GTR and am waiting for delivery
They both have tablets in your price range.0 -
We bought our 10yr old daughter a NAPTC from Amazon she loves it does the things she wants ,games, apps ,skype .Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

What do you mean by fake? They are just no brand. I suggest you avoid. With no brand, it would be difficult to fix in future. (I referring to software problem.) With known chinese brand, you would still manage to find some other user in android forum and ask for help if you need.0
