  • hi,

i have never tried free anti spyware from AVG. I only use their free anti-virus product. but here are some free anti spyware options -

    Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
    Ad-aware - http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
    Spywareblaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

also occasionally you might want to try running this free online tool for PC health and safety from MS -

  • You're advised to keep AVG Anti-Spyware. AVG Anti-Spyware (formerly known as ewido) is an anti-trojan program for the most part, so as good a program as Spybot, Ad-aware and Spywareblaster are, they have no anti-trojan capabilities, so they're no adequate substitutes for AVG Anti-Spyware.

If you scan e-mail attachments and every file you download with AVG Anti-Spyware manually before you open/run them, you won't need the resident protection feature.
The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.

Yeah they are, does that mean the shield will not work again unless I cough up?

uninstall and go and download freebie again from Grisoft, each download will be newer than the last and the shield will be in use again HTH
