  • G4S dont have any sort of reputation in the industry for how they treat their workers. No pay the second you go over 40 hours a week :rotfl:
yes, they try and con us, but some of us have the nerve to stand up to them and stick to the 37 hours a week. The managers back down, they have to, or they are in trouble. since G4S have taken over from us at Accuread all they have done is slash our wages ruthlessly. They have even replaced our very good handheld computers,( made by DAP ) with incredibly cheap rubbish Korean ones costing only £400 each. Embarrassing junk to use, they wont last 10 minutes, but thats G4S for you, a"cowboy outfit"

G4S? In customer relations win result? Bloody hell.

If only they treated their employees the same way. This coming from myself who was 'laid off' by telephone this morning. Thumbs up HR department.

Anyways to the subject at hand, if someone answered to the door to me and I suspected they were under 21 I'd always leave them a card and ask them to give it to parents/carer. Kids these days look way older than they actually are so I always kept myself safe with the under 21 rule.

On a separate note, those thinking of a career meter reading for G4S, don't bother, it's slave labor, and only 'rewarding' in July/August.

Sorry to hear that you have lost your job and hope you have something to go into. G4S HR department acting this way is no surprise to me.

I love how the employee subject to the original OP left for other reasons, it was probably due to it being the final straw or the vetting process showed up some matters that was not to G4S's liking.

I agree about the slave labour comment. Not only do they expect miracles for lousy wages but they treat you like mushrooms and expect you to break your necks to achieve some target some faceless person at HO has set your manager. Who then gets it in the neck when not achieved and then passes this on to the staff wbo did not achieve such targets.
  • It's a bull s company that's for certain. I used to work for Meter-U, which yes had its bad points but in no way was I ever treated badly there until g4s took them over.
I've read so much aggro and grief directed towards meter readers on here by bored housewives who haven't got 2 seconds spare in their day to let us do our jobs and they forget we get more crap off of our managers and hr then they could ever dish out.
In a way glad to be out of the company and certain avenues have opened up to me this week so should t be jobless for long.

Roll on the day when manual Meter Reading by nasty intimidating little wannabee dictators is over and it can all be done remotely by Smart Meter type technology. No doubt companies will dream up some other way of harassing householders and destroying their privacy, though!!
  • Our leccy company is happy with us sending readings. Saying that they'd never get in because we both work full time.

Same here - we always had cards left to fill in cause we both work.

Until, however, we started using the EDF Meter Photo App. We submit photos of our Gas & Electricity meters once a month. Ever since we started doing this last year we haven't received a single meter reading card through the door.

How odd! Are EDF actually trusting the photo reads sufficiently to do away with the need for G4S to come around?

Hello Doc P... are you referring to me when you complain of 'bored housewives'? A stranger forced his way into my house past a 14 yr old boy who had refused him entry to read a meter despite being told he could come back half an hr later and would be let in. That is illegal. I have two jobs and three children and am not in the least bit bored. I also do nothing to stop people doing their jobs. When the complaints manager contacted me i told him i thought the way meter readers were paid per reading was partly responsible for the meter readers behaviour and seemed totally unfair when so many people are out at work... i also told him that the complaints that appear on here clearly illustrate meter readers trespass without permission climbing fences, walls etc just to get adequately paid. Im not foolish enough to think I will make a difference but resent the implication that because I asked a question and thoroughly investigated what happened that I am a bored house wife.

PS good luck i your job hunting. I would seem from all i have read that G4S is not a nice company to work for. I truly hope you find something better :)

a couple of grumpy old paranoids blokes having a rant on here is nt how the rest of the country see us as. I resent your ridiculous implication. you had your say, you got your apologies, now let it drop. Or are you going to join the likes of Neverenough and his disgusting rants. I go for months on end visiting people in their homes, solving a lot of mess ups and problems, without a hint of trouble, and just at least TRY and remember , we are sent by your supplier, to your house. We are under orders. ONE meter reader visitor to your home making a mistake isnt a template for the lot of us
