Car insurance mix up

OH has been looking for cheaper car insurance. He has got over 10 years no claims. In 2010 we had some idiot run up the back of our caravan whilst we were stopped, the caravan had damage to back, as the caravan was insured on home insurance content policy we claimed for it. Now 2 years on having found a cheap car insurance quote on line, we could'nt pay for it as was told that it could'nt be dealt with on line and to ring help line. Today OH rang Hastings Direct to ask what the problem was and was told that he had had a previous claim in 2010 with AXA (car has never been insured with AXA anyway) OH explained about the caravan and all he needed to do was get his previous brokers(he used a broker for over 20 years but recently found it cheaper to get it himself) to send Hastings a letter headed email explaining this to them. When Hastings received the email they refused to acknowledge it even though it had all the brokers details, vat number etc on it and phone numbers. They obviously did'nt think the company was deputable. OH rang his previous brokers back and said that Hastings would not accept the email saying that OH could have easily sent it and lied about his no claims. Brokers said that they could'nt do anything else as they had sent the email that was asked for. Is there any way out of this? Chances are that OH will not be able to get any online insurance from anyone if this persists. Thanks

if you search for threads about Hastings Direct you might well find you've had a lucky escape.
If they are being this difficult whilst trying to sell you a policy just imagine what they would be like if they already had your money and you wanted to make s claim0 -
More generally, I'm guessing that the caravan incident is recorded on CUE so you need to declare it as a non fault full recovery claim.
Check with your caravan insurers to see if they got their costs back from the at fault driver (probably insured with AXA).
The above assumes the caravan was attached to the car when the crash happened, if it wasn't attached then it might well be different0 -
Other driver was not insured it was a pain in the bum. I am guessing that this problem is going to be encountered wherever OH gets insurance from.0

Thanks anyway. OH has had another quote from elsewhere so looks like he will be going with them. Last insurance runs out on 9th December so he had to be pretty quick in getting soemthing sorted.0

Even though you did not lose your no claims this accident still needs to be declared for the next 5 years or so.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
