HELP! Unusual situation and wanting to claim

Hi Guys,
Hopefully some of you can help me out and point me in the right direction. I have been wanting to claim back charges for a while now but kept putting it off, well i have now transfered over to a new fresh bank account and am ready to get going but my Bank and credit cards are a bit funny and i allready have barclays trying to fob me off. anyway here goes with the details of my accounts;

Barclaycard Credit Card Limit £1200 and owed £1200 (account closed but still paying the damn thing off and getting charged constantly, aint spent a penny on it in two years)

Capital One Credit Card Limit:£400 - Balance £1200( and rapidly growing out of control with the charges)

My barclays bank account charges add up to well over £2000 over the last six years. When i spoke to barclays and requested details of charges over the last few years they were helpful and agreed but said that i could only claim for certain charges, I understood that all charges were illegal!!!???

i.e they said if a debit came in and they bounced it and charged me i could claim.but if a debit came in and they paid it and then charged me a nice £30 to send me overdrawn then i cant claim for that. Is this the case????

Also one more problem, as i have now changed over to a new bank account and am not going to use my barclays anymore. I forgot about two direct debits coming out during the changeover of accounts and i didnt leave the funds in my barclays account. Barclays kindly paid the two bills and charged me £60 for the pleasure which now leaves my account at -£420 but i dont have an overdraft! now that i am not going back to barclays nor are my wages going in should i pay them or wait untill the bank charges issue comes to court???

Also i am 21 and just started the route of joining the army so lets hope i can get my debts cleared. I figure from looking at my accounts and charges i could probably pay off everything! with the charges refunds.

Now im heading over to join that saver club you got running here :j

Many thanks for all you help

Rory

    Rory,

Firstly, banks have been repaying for both of the charge types you mentioned. Either the person who said that is uninformed or trying to mislead you. They're both penalty charges, however they try to hide it.

Please read the Step by step instructions carefully. Also the Reclaim Help thread, which has lots of useful information including addresses and charge types. Links to both pages are in my signature.
  • Thanks for that nickmack!
Initial letters for DPA request sent off this morning for all account :D
Finally getting started down the long road of getting the charges back.

Does anyone have any advice on my other problem?? with my barclays acount going overdrawn over £420 now when i dont have an overdraft surely they will come looking for the money now when they notice my salary is going into my new account and not theirs. Will i have to repay all at once or should i let them stew and top up my old account in installments ?? as they owe me more than the £420 in charges anyway

    Thanks again for any help

    Rory
