Underpinned property insurance

Having read the thread on the above subject i rang Axa to find out if they would insure a property that was underpinned in 1992 and was told that i need to do it online. Completed details on the web including personal info and it came up with a very competitive price. However it concerns me as they only wanted to know if the property has been underpinned in the last 10 years? The answer was no as it was 20 years ago.

Most other insurers want a lot more info going back to many years and their quotes are expensive plus higher excess. We would be happy to go with AXA but do not want to end up with a policy which may defeat the purpose. They no longer deal with insurance on the phone and customers have no contact to ask questions.

I would like to know from other forum readers about their experience to make an informed decision before going with AXA.

IIRC L&G also have a fifteen year limit in their question about underpinning.

OP - the FOS takes a very dim view of insurers applying information after the event, when it did not specifically request it at application stage.

If it only asks about the last ten years, you can legitimately answer "no" if it was further back than that.
