A repair isn't counted as a claim.0

It is a claim!
The insurer pays for the repair. It must be declared if you change insurers.
It just isn't a claim for NCD purposes.0 -
Hello
I need some advice as a chip 3cm from the edge of the windscreen was cracked by an autowindscreen technician, he now says ive got to pay £50 and have a new screen fitted.
he did say that it might get cracked as it was close to the edge but he wasnt very clear about this.
Could the crack have been avoided and shall I complain or should I accept.
I have just had the same thing happen to me. my chip was about 10cm from the edge, but now i have to pay £60 for new screen when the chip may never have spread. if you look on their website there is no mention of this possibility.
If your crack was only 3cm from the edge then according to their website he shouldn't have tried to fix it anyway.0 -
Just had a small chip done via AutoWindscreens claiming off insurance (SwiftCover). Only things I'd add:
- insurers may have approved repairers (for SwiftCover it's AutoWindscreens or failing that Autoglass). If you pick someone else, they limit what they'll pay. A small chip is just under £50 I believe.
- you do have to make a claim on insurance but the (approved) repair company do the paperwork with your insurers I believe (Swiftcover said you could book first and they get told or do vice versa and they tell repairers)
- whilst it may not reduce your NCD, with Swiftcover and possibly others the number of years NCD won't increase the following year. How significant this will be will differ from person to person.
- from what I understand, it's a claim but not one taken into account when deciding premiums, so just shop around rather than autorenew as usual.

I've had windscreen chips repaired for my Honda.
£10 windscreen excess with Churchill but does not spoil your no claims discount.
used local company automobileglassrepair which I had to pay the £10 excess to.
The resin reinforces the windscreen crack that is actually
stronger than the windscreen glass itself. It looks pretty
decent but like earlier post points out, it is not invisible
but it does stop it cracking like that annoying autoglass advert says it might do if you go over a speed bump! Anyway would recommend as cheaper than a new car windscreen!0
