Meter Reading

Hi,

I came home yesterday to find a "Sorry You were out" card through my door requesting a meter reading. The thing that puzzles me is they are a company that I am NOT registered with.
Has anyone else experienced this? I rang them and they claimed that they are doing postcode checks for my area, but I told them I would not give my personal details unless it was to the provider I'm actually with.
I queried whether it was just a sales tactic, which they denied.

The meter readers are not employed by your designated supplier, but by the DNO - the old electricity company in your area (sort-of).
  • Dont worry , its a common thing for the meter readers to put a card through the wrong letterbox. If I do that, I will follow the card with an apology saying" card left in error, please ignore " but I can imagine a lot will not bother
  • Hi,

though Scottish Power is my supplier, G4S does meter reading.

That's the group that messed up security at the Olympics, and allows prisoners to escape when transferring to/from court.

Nothing to do with DNOs - your supplier either reads your meter or they contract out the work.

    Common meter reading firms include:

    G4S
    SSE
    Lowri Beck
    Meter Plus
    Eon
    Siemens

As mentioned - unlikely a sales tactic & more likely a mistake. Many a time I went to the wrong house (normally the first part of the address was correct but the postcode was for 150miles away) :rotfl:
