Are these new (I guess) vacuum cleaners for pets bad for your carpets? Should you avoid them if you have no pets?
Thanks

No, it's just marketing hype.
Vacuums have been specifically marketed for pet owners for years now. (the Dyson Animal, for example, came out years ago, no different to the standard machine, just different accessories). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes, macman has got it spot on. The only difference is that they generally come with a turbine tool. This is the attachment that you'd use to get stubborn pet hair off areas like your sofa.
Unless you have a furry pet that causes a problem, I wouldn't pay extra for a "Pets" model from anyone's vacuum cleaner range. Even if you did, it's not going to damage your carpet in any way.0 -
Thank you. I only ask because I have seen some 'pets' versions that are actually cheaper than a normal vacuum cleaner.0

It all depends on what models are on promotion doesn't it. All that matters is if it's going to suit you.
If by chance you're looking to buy in Argos or on line, always try and have a look at the vacuum cleaner in somewhere like Curry's first. I've done this before and it's changed my mind, perhaps because a cleaner is heavier than I thought or maybe the plastic finish looked very cheap. You can't easily assess these things on line. My apologies if I'm stating the obvious here!0 -
Those Vacuum Cleaners for Pets are a waste of money.
We bought a Dyson Animal but we could never get Rover or Tiddles to understand how to use it.0 -

Tut, tut. I blame the coach/teacher. If Rover and Tiddles were taught properly in the first place;).............they would understand how to use it.:pI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the 'I wanna' and 'In my home' and Health & Beauty'' boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I got a hoover Pet vacuum, it was rubbish, the wheels fell off after two days and the belt broke whenever it went near a pet hair.
Back to my Henry, picks up everything with no bother and no blockages0 -

I wouldn't advise vacuuming any pet. Stick the dog in the bath, or under a hose. And give the cat a good brush.;)
I've got a Hoover with one of those pet hair removal attachments. Waste of time. The regular attachments seem much better for removing cat hair (and mine shed a lot)0 -
I have a Miele cylinder vacuum, but bought the turbo brush that comes as standard with the cat and dog version. I don't have any pets. So when my Mum got a new vacuum, we got her the cat and dog version, specifically because it comes with the turbo head. It's far easier to push than just the normal head, and doesn't harm the carpets at all.0
