British Gas Paypoint site collapsed

Just tried to top up my home energy top up card to find I'm banned from the site. Spoke to rep on phone who tells me they have upgraded their software and its collapsed.
He says as its not a guaranteed service I know, I live in a very rural location, have to complete a 45 minute round trip to get the thing manually topped up.
How clever is that ?

I believe you can organise Brit Gas prepays to use an online top up by getting a gizmo from BG

Thanks for your post ascint, I also had the same error this morning and when I tried to call them got a " we're busy - call tomorrow" type message!
Glad it's not just me as couldn't get any info, surely they could put a notice on the main site to make people aware there is an ongoing issue.

Did they give any idea of a timescale for sorting the problem?
I'd be lost without this service now so I know how you feel!

I was told they hoped to sort the problem quickly. When I asked how quickly he suggested I try tomorrow. when I suggested that wasn't soon, he replied I know but its the best knowledge I have why can't you go and try at a paypoint locally, don't forget the online service is not a guaranteed service.
They all but force you into getting these meters when you go behind in payments and then as this is my 3rd collapse, don't offer a guaranteed service
