  • There are millions of places you can set up a free site, though many you will have advertisements added which you dont receive revenue from. For a very modest investment you can get an ad free website and as long as your happy using off the shelf templates then it will look fairly professional (though very similar to everyone else using that template)

Having ecommerce makes it a touch more complicated but there are many opensource ecommerce solutions that support digital products

    Thanks for that.

I know there are a million places, which one is best for a lot of text like an ebook?

    Best free websites are:

http://www.wordpress.com/ - uses wordpress, recently started adding adverts in free version
http://www.blogger.com/ - run by google, no adverts (at the moment)

Both are blog style sites, but you can make a static website by just using pages if you'd prefer. You can either have a free address (eg: you.wordpress.com) or pay a small amount to register a domain (eg: yourbook.com).

I'd go for one of those.

Why don't you let Amazon do it for you:

With Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) you can self-publish your books on the Amazon Kindle Store. It's free, fast, and easy. Books self-published through KDP can participate in the 70% royalty program and are available for purchase on Kindle devices and Kindle apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, and Android-based devices. With KDP, you can self-publish books in many languages - including English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian - and specify pricing in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling, and Euros. Its just a mine field of cmplex hoops to jump through.

My book is not in the right format to start with.
  • What is the easiest way to get a finished ebook out there?

As Tiexen states, it is best to go to Amazon. Here are some others:

    http://www.dogearsetc.com

    http://www.flipkart.com

    http://www.smashwords.com

    http://www.goodreads.com

With many of these types of ebook publishing websites they either want a specific file format (layout of words/paragraphs) or they just let you upload a word document AS IS for example whereby they will be the ones to convert it into EPUB format and so on.

For clues and tips search google for terms like: Indie Authors Guide and Indie Author Blogs etc. Indie means Independent by the way.

You might find it useful, to download a small piece of software that picks up spelling mistakes and grammar errors. Your post comes with little or no excitement as it carries quite a few.
