Help setting up my Samsung Smart TV w Dongle?

I have a Samsung LED TV (UE32D5000PW, I think!) and bought a Samsung dongle (WIS12ABGN) to activate the smart / internet TV feature.

I plugged it in to the USB port and it picked up my wifi signal and connected straight away BUT when I click “OK” to confirm that it is the network I want to use, the TV switches back to “PC” function and the USB port is no longer recognised as connected? Help!

The fact that you have picked up the wifi signal is just that, you have picked up a wifi signal.

You will have to input your router access code through a setup function before it will connect. It's just like connecting a pc, you need a code otherwise all your neighbours will be using your wifi connection as well!

Thank Neil - Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. My wifi network is protected. The TV picked up the signal, I gave it the password and it told me it was connected.

It was only when I clicked the "OK" button on screen, that the TV clicked out of the "USB" port function" and on to "PC", but the TV is recognising neither of these ports as being active

    Hi Lottie,
Have you tried using one of the smart features after it says connected? I had a similar issue with my sammy TV (though a smaller older version), the USB function is if you have a stick with pictures/movies on to use but it won't pick up the dongle for that purpose.

    Hope it helps!

Hi Evans502 - How do I access the smart functions? (am i being really thick here?!) I just assumed something would click on after I secured the connection? Couldn't see a specialised input or anything?

Hiya Lottie, it should look like a hexagon button in the middle of your remote, it should pop up with a menu with things like BBC iplayer etc

Yes...... I was being think! It turns out my TV doesn't have a smart TV function

I'm not sure what the purpose of the dongle is tho? It says in the instruction manual you can use one to connect it to your network?

Aah, for some of the ones you use a dongle for, it lets you stream movies from your laptop/phone if they're on the same network. If you download "Allshare" from the samsung website you'll be able to do that.

If you're after a decent iplayer for your TV though a few set-top boxes can connect to the internet (not sure whether wifi ones are out yet at the moment though).

    Good luck!
