Dissapointed bidder

Hi all,

I just tried to post this message but something went wrong, I think, and it doesn't seem to be appearing on the forums - sorry if it ends up there twice!

Anyway, I am new to ebay - only sold a couple of items so far. I just had a small item sell this evening (less than £5)- I wasn't by a computer to watch the final seconds of the auction but basically Bidder A had bid and was the initial and only bidder for several days and then right at the end of the auction 4-5 people bid and bidder B won the auction. I have packaged and ready to send to bidder B now as they have already paid. Anyway, I received a message from bidder A saying "Hi I put in for [a higher amount] and it dismissed it, are you selling to other bidder or would you consider my bid?"

Am I right in thinking that they must've just bid too late and so after the auction had ended? Or could there be any other reason? It's annoying to miss out on a higher bid even though it's a small amount - every little helps :o but obviously I am sending to bidder B. Just wondered what to tell bidder A? Or if any more experienced ebayers had any thoughts?

Thanks!

Just tell them that their bid was too late. that;s all you need to do.

Selling it to them now would be a big no no

Yes, either Bidder A bid too late or pressed the wrong key or similar, but the winner is the winning bidder according to eBay and nobody else.

Perhaps Bidder A has seen you are new to eBay and are trying their luck at obtaining an item that they failed to win?

I would reply briefly that the winning bidder B has won and paid immediately and you therefore have to honour the transaction and provide the item to bidder B.

  • Sounds like a con to me. Wait and see the final highest bid then, if it is low enough, say you bid higher. Tell them you have to take the winning bid (B) and refer them to ebay if they are having problems bidding.
  • Ok, great - thanks everyone! Was just getting worried I had somehow missed something! Was always fully intending to send to bidder B, just was a bit surprised when I received A's message! Thanks again :)

Nope, you're quite right. Explain to Bidder A that their bid did not register for some reason and say something along the lines of 'Sorry, but I have to sell to B'.

or just ignore them, you have no transaction to communicate with them about.
