App creation

Hi.

I run a small business and am looking at creating an App. Has anybody done this! How difficult is it and what are the likely costs

Many thanks for any help.

Phill

That'd depend entirely on what you want the app to do and what platforms you want to target.

This s where I plead ignorance. I install kitchens and bathrooms and want to use an app as a marketing tool. I would like to be able to put pics of recent projects on it, upload special offers and give tips to homeowners about maintenance etc.

I understand there are android phones and non android phones, and that getting an app on to the apple stuff (iPhones, iPads etc) is quite onerous.

Probably best to have a decent website.

Agree with this you really don't need to make an app nobody will use it because it doesn't offer them anything they want on a regular basis.
When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.
  • Currently you mainly have iOS (apple), Android, Blackberry and Windows apps. Depending on how the app is written it is easy or difficult to port between the platforms. The other option of cause is just to have a mobile optimised version of your website instead of an explicit app.

As others have said, what you describe is a website not an app. The above could be an app if it can be launched with a significant amount of content otherwise its potentially better as a blog on your website.

For a kitchen fitter I'd more expect to see something like a kitchen planner (ideally but expensive) or a costing tool

Thanks to inside insurance for answering the question. It always amazes me on here when a question is posed and people always answer a different question.

Just a side note, sometimes an online app design course appears on the coupon sites (last time it popped up it was £49 for a year). Keep an eye out if your definately interested!
