Please help, cant get rid of virus?

Options
Hi,

Firstly, please forgive me as I'm rather "dense" when it comes to computers.

After my son was home on leave using the computer (he said it had happened after he'd been on an adult site). I kept receiving a report that I had a trojan and then another report coming up saying my system was very low on memory.

I have downloaded ad aware and thought that it had been sorted after I had ran a scan and deleted the infected bits (sorry not brilliant at computer technology lol)...but I've run it 5 times since (every day) and every time I run it it keeps finding critical objects (at least 15 each time). This is coming up as tracking and a rate of 3..is this ok? and also mru list which is saying does not pose a threat.

The computer is still extremely slow and I'm not sure what to do next. I still keep getting reports up that say the memory is low but I havent got alot on at the moment or downloaded anything new that would take the space up.Do you think there could be something else on the computer I havent found?

Apologies again about not knowing a thing about this.......I'm finding it really frustrating now as its been a problem for about a week now. I'm desperate to sell on ebay yet I darent put in passwords etc in case something is still in the system.

Could anyone help?...many thanks :D

    which trojan?

which virus scanner do you have? Is it upto date? Have you done a full scan? See malware sticky thread at the top of the page.

If ad aware is just finding tracking cookies, they aren't viruses.

How much ram do you have? XP? If less than 256MB https://www.crucial.com/uk
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I would recommend running a virus scan.

There are free ones such as AVG, also the "money grabbing ones" also offer free "web based" scanning.

In future I would recommend you son uses reputable adult sites ;)

Thanks Browntoa, I will give it a go.

I just thought that what I had would of found them, but it looks as if I'll have to do a little more.

    Thanks all :)
  • Hello folks. Bit of a whizz kid myself and no stranger to fixing folks PCs. I swear by this antivirus programme "Antivir". Go to https://www.filehippo.com and search for it there.

Tried all the antivirus programmes including AVG and "Antivir" is the best (in my opinion (experienced opinion)).

    Cheers
