Beware of some cheaper LCD TVs - they can be very low quality.
I have a 32" samsung and it is an excellent tv with HD freeview - ideal for playing xbox 360 with a gaming mode. It is a great looking set as well - no bigger than my previous 28" since the screen goes very close to the edge, with the speakers hidden behind.
You can get the 32" at dixons for £524 (I think) using the code 10APR07. It is also possible to get 5% with egg card and 2.5% quidco

Can also get the 26" version on play.com for £399 - really good tv (I have the 32", but am thinking about getting the 26 for bedroom) ...down to you whether you're prepared to drop 6" for a better picture.
  • name isn't always everything though - the AOC tv has got some very good reviews on AVFORUMS and out performs a lot of the budget end of the "big brand" manufacturers.

Though I do agree - if buying a cheap TV do your research before hand becuase some of the tesco/aldi etc... offerings are quite poor!

Since Freeview doesn't broadcast any HD programmes, you don't need that feature. Indeed, it's likely to make the pictures look worse than on an SD set.

The only reason for having an HD-Ready set is to view games (from a suitable player) or HD-DVDs (from a suitable player) or Sky-HD.

The Samsung lcd tvs seem well recommended. Argos have a 32" samsung for £489, which might be worth a look if your budget will strech a little. I havent checked the spec.

It's also worth having it for the sake of futureproofing your investment a little. Just because freeview isn't HD now, doesn't mean it won't be in 2/3 years (ok, it's unlikely to be in 2/3 years..)...and in the next couple of years we'll see a big shift toward HDDVD and/or Bluray, so HD's well worth having.

Freeview can't provide HD until analogue is switched off in all areas (2012 at the earliest). Even then, the government is trying very hard to sell off the extra bandwidth to the highest bidder, so it's unlikely to happen ever.

For my part, I'm not planning to invest in HD-DVD or Blueray so I'll stick with an SD TV that does a better job of displaying SD pictures. And it's cheaper. Isn't this the money saving forum? :D
  • cheers for your help guys im on the case what do you think of this.. Its not freeview but what do you think?
