Thanks everyone! I've never even heard of dirt-trapper mats!! They look like the way to go I reckon, I was considering a bucket of water in the utility area too

She is 3 and a bit years old so is more than capable of holding it in a bit she just loves going outside and wants to go out anytime the back door is opened. She does get walked every day (otherwise she'd be going hatstand) but not yesterday as LO had a ranging temp, swollen tonsils and glands and really wasn't in the mood for a dog walk so she did go out in the garden quite a lot. Mind you, the cats aren't much better with their paws but they only have tiny feet

The bristles take the dirt off as you remove the paw. A friend had one but found it was more faff than it was worth, but her dog is short coated so it might be worth it for a dog with particularly hairy feet.

We use one with our long haired GSD. It definitely works for us.

If they have shaggy paws then trim the hair short. Makes a big difference to the muddy paw prints my poodles leave
