Other than keeping an eye on the Play store or hoping someone tells you when they are back in stock I don't think you have any other options at the moment. I tried to buy a Nexus 4 when they were first released but failed before they were all sold, but at that time they allowed you to register to be notified when they were available again. That option soon disappeared, but today I got the email and 20 minutes ago I managed to buy one. Hopefully the Nexus 10 will be in stock again soon too.

They are in very short supply at the moment. Best I can recommend is to keep an eye on the Engadget website - http://www.engadget.com as they keep getting prior warning of new stock, though only a few hours notice.

Even if they do get more stock in, you may not get it in time for Christmas - they've just started selling the Nexus 4 again this afternoon and they're on a 4/5 week delivery schedule.

Maybe look at another tablet - Samsung Galaxy tablets are getting good reviews, or give him a picture with an IOU note that you'll get one soon as poss? :-)

Only other thing if you're really desperate to get one would be Ebay but you will be ripped off by people charging over the odds because of the current shortage
  • many thanks for your reply scooby :)

honestly I have never looked at any other tablets other than obviously IPad and Google nexus 10.

without sounding too daft, which samsung tablet (comparable to nexus 10) to go for? :o

Does it have to be a Nexus 10?

Daughter has just got the 7 and she is more than happy with it. I have tried it and it is pretty slick IMO.

  • Like Grizzly said, the Nexus 7 is great if a smaller device will do? I've had one for a few months and love it.

To be honest, I'm a Google fanboy so not paid much attention to other tablets available, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (Tesco Direct £238) is similar to the Nexus 10 though the display's not quite as good.

The Asus Transformer Pad (Amazon - £431) gets very good reviews too but a much higher price as it comes with a detachable stand / keyboard turning your tablet into a laptop.

Other people might have recommendations too, but whatever you decide, have a look at the Grabbit While You Can Forum as they tend to know the best deals for different tablets.

Let us know what you decide :)
