The time to have considered the affects on you not being able to pay the loan that YOU APPLIED FOR on your poor guarantor would have been before you both put pen to paper. It's a bit late now.

There only appear to be 2 stupid people involved in this transaction and neither of them are the lender.

You won't be able to remove the guarantor.

You and your guarantor agreed that you would repay the loan, but if you couldn't, then your guarantor would repay, until you were able to again. It's up to you to make arrangements with your guarantor to repay them once your job situation is sorted. I take it you're doing everything you can to sort this situation and keeping in contact with your guarantor and paying him whatever you can afford?

it won't affect their credit score at all, as they're making the repayments. They should continue to pay until you are able to pay again, then you need to pay them back.
    From £8,800 to £2,200 in 2 years.

Nearly there, just the 0% credit card to go!

    HI,

I am one of those pratts that ended up guaranteeing an FML loan for a colleague who gave me a sob story.

Th issue was that he vanished into thin air and I was unable to locate him.

To make it even worse, a year after paying FML more than £2000 and closing the account they contacted me to advise that the debtor had advised his bank that FML had taken an unauthorised payment from his account (after it was closed) and the bank refunded him. Guess who they came to for the money - ME

Does anyone know what I can do about tracking the debtor down?? I have left this for over two years but stumbled on this forum and its all come back to me in a red mist.

    Thanks

You would need to take this through the small claims court to get your money back from this man I think.

You can check council electro roles to see where this man is now living.

I am a guarantor for my daughter with Amigo Loans. She has only May and June's payments left and will not be getting another with them ever. She has been paying for a very long time and will be glad after June when its finished.

She has never missed a payment thank god, as I do not work any more due to illness and would have been unable to pay in her place. But when the loan was taken out I was in full time employment, this is how easy things can change and you should always factor things like this in.

If you were able to track this person down and take them to small claims court they could be ordered to pay you back, then disappear again. They could be ordered to pay you back a token sum of £1 a week. You could even take this as far as getting a CCJ awarded against them but to be honest if their only line of credit was Amigo then their credit is probably already shot to !!!!! so this person won't care about a CCJ and possibly already has one anyway.

Chalk this one up to experience and don't be so daft again.

If someone asked my to be a guarantor for one of these loans I wouldn't do it.

    A) They are obviously crap with money and shouldn't be borrowing any if Amigo is the only line of credit available.

    B) I would rather just give them the money myself. It would probably work out cheaper.

    In relation to the above.

A guarantor's credit file isn't affected by Amigo loans unless it ends up going to court / judgements are awarded. If you're in financial trouble, give them a call :)
