Hi all,
I use energiser (green and silver ones) batteries and have the recharger with space for 4 aa types.
Im not entirely happy as it comes up with "Bad" a lot - even with new batteries being charged for the second or third time.
Anyone make a recomendation on batteries for me?
Thanks

Do you know anyone with a charger you could try with the batteries your charger rejects?0
-
I have a state of the art (La Crosse) charger. It rejects batteries that have been left discharged a long time (actually, just says 'null'). Yet by placing them into a cheapest possible charger for 30 mins, they come alive enough to be charged to completion in the La Cross and work ever after.
Some chargers have sophisticated circuits to check that a batter is 'acceptable', some don't.0 -

You have just spent a lot of money on charger + batteries
The charger/battery system has failed and you want to spend more money on batteries!
Within the next couple of years the system will fail again requiring you to buy more batteries or even a new charger
All this in an attempt to save money on batteries!
Or you could do what I do and buy pound shop Batteries.
Over the lasy year I have spent £1 for 6 x AA and £3 for 18 AAA alkali batteries.
Long shelf life, good capacity.
AA batteries that are too flat for heavy use can be used to power clocks. Rechargables don't hold the charge enough for this.
A single AAA battery in my Zen Nano mp3 player lasts for ages compared with rechargables.
If you don't use a lot of batteries then rechargeables just aren't worth the hassle.

+1 for the GP Recyko or Uniross Hybrio too - low self discharge."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I use Eneloop low discharge types on a keyboard, mouse, Xmas lights. Saved a packet over the years and environmental too.0

.Q. What is the life of ..................
.A. The amount of times you can recharge them
.. .. so what ?, in practical everyday terms .. .. so what !
In reality, the type of usage is the critical bit, 1800 vs. 1500 cycles is irrelevant, what you want is a battery now, now, now, not after an hours charge, anyway the kids, or yourself will lose or misplace them before 1800 cycles just like they lose their socks. You want to grab one out of the drawer that works and works now.
With the new Eneloop their capacity is maintained [90% arguable] even after 5 years of storage. Just pop it in when you want it and it just works, 3 6 months 18 months later - does what it sez on the tin.
Which ones should I buy ? - you choose or ask here but be certain the last two characters are GB not GA.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. The problem might actually be to do with the charger and the way you use the batteries
If you always fully discharge the batteries before recharge you shouldn't have a problem.
But some simple chargers work on recharging for a fixed time rather than until they detect it's fully charged, so if you recharge from only half discharged you will be overcharging and shortening the battery life.
I know someone who destroyed a nicad battery in a couple of weeks like that, while mine in the same type of radio lasted a few years, because I always made sure it was flat before charging it overnight
More clever chargers do detect the state of charge and will automatically switch themselves off when the batteries are fully charged
Take a look at the instructions if you still have them, or if not try finding a copy on the internet.
The ones you have may be recoverable if recycled on such a charger if you get one, or they may be past it by now, but at least you'll know for the future0 -
Lots to read up on here thanks everyone.
Just for info I go through batteries very fast with various gadgets games and the full works at the moment.
My charger is one which detects the charge and powers off when full.
Its interesting because the batteries can go in 4 at a time - only one will be bad. But they seem to charge in pairs - so two will show as bad and two will charge. I can sometimes rotate them round to switch batteries so that the bad one is with another one in its pair - and then it will sometimes charge. Mostly though it wont.
I would guess that 40% of the energizer batteries are non-rechargable after 1 or 2 goes.
Others seem to go on forever.
I am interested now in the eneloops - I will look into that - thankyou.0
