I bank with Lloyds and although I am now getting in a position where I am getting my debt under control, I have been charged over £425 this year by Lloyds, if I wrote to them what are the chances of getting any of these fees back or would I be wasting my time. is there any kind of template I could use

You can ask them and they can say yes or no. You have no right to get the money back. You are reliant on their goodwill. So to answer your question, no you cannot reclaim them. However, you can ask them to look at your charges with a view to reducing them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks Dunstonh that is actually what I meant to say, can I ask for them and do the banks have any goodwill? Is there any kind of template that I could use?0

Dont use a template letter. You want the complaints handler at the bank to look at your case sympathetically. Using a template letter that they have seen hundreds of times before will just irritate the complaints handler. Especially if it is template known to be used by dodgy complaints. Even the FOS say they prefer to read complaints in your own words and not on a template.
You dont need to write much. Just give your case in a few sentences. Don't mention the charges being unfair or unjustified (auto rejection if you do). Just tell them that you have struggled but are getting over it but are finding it hard to get on top of things with the amount of charges that have been levied and ask them if they could refund some of them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
