Best Company for Self Employed Sickness Cover

Recently broke my wrist and it got me thinking I should get myself covered should anything more serious happen. I have heard horror stories about companies not paying out or paying out ridiculously low amounts.
From what I have read I think i'm looking at around £800 a year? Who would you suggest?

There are two versions of product:
Accident & Sickness (AS) - this is the light version that will only cover you for 1 years worth of income (a few do 2 years). It typically isnt underwritten and is relatively cheap with all checks done at the point of claim (so if there is a problem you wont know about it til its too late)
Permanent Health Insurance (PHI) - this is the full fat version that will continue paying you your agreed amount up until your declared age (normally 65). This is much more sensitive to your age, existing health etc and is fully underwritten when you take it out. More painful to get it but assuming you didnt lie then claims are more straight forward.
AS you can buy online for the best price.
PHI you are best going via either a Protection Broker or an IFA as many of the insurers dont do direct to market offerings and there are much fewer white labels etc0 -
PHI wipes the floor with AS. There is no one best policy though as it would depend on your occupation, level of cover (you get budget plans, fairly standard plans and comprehensive plans) and your ability to afford the premiums.I have heard horror stories about companies not paying out or paying out ridiculously low amounts.
I suspect they were AS or ASU plans rather than PHI. PHI is deemed one of the best types of insurance you can buy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
