  • So yesterday I went to the gym after work and realised I forgot my water bottle (I have a reuseable one with a builtin filter because Oxford water is blurgh!), so I had to buy one and it spoilt my intended NSD :(

So I figured since that was blown I would go to T3sco for mark down goodies. And I got some lovely pre-cooked salmon fillets, 2 packs for £1.20 each with some other needed bits (breadflour, milk etc.)

And then today when I was updating my spends diary spreadsheet I noticed on the receipt that there was an extra pound off for a multibuy, which I think was the salmon or something. Or just a mistake, but a nice bonus none the less! :D

Car has gone of for it's MOT today so fingers crossed! Does anybody know what kind of money you get for scrap these days?!! :rotfl:

So that's all the good stuff. Now for a confession. I bought some tickets for a one day festival next summer. TOTALLY not a need at all. This is the trial run for spending fast though, and I did actually agonise over the for a while, whereas before I wouldn't even had thought but still not good.

But now I'm thinking that I may give up my Glastonbury ticket and this will be a half way house. Well a bit better than half way really because the one-day will cost about £120 total whereas a weekend at Glastonbury would be £500 all in. Or does that sound like post-hoc rationalisation!

I also need to buy some new work shoes shortly. And it really is a need, the current favorites are falling apart and I have no black ones at all. It's actually begining to look a little unprofessional! There are some in Cl4rks that would be good but I am going to hang out for the sales proper.

Hello, Missymoo! Thanks for dropping by! :)

Car back from MOT and passed, with only one comment :T Every year I hold my breath thinking something horribly expensive will have to be done and it always goes fine.

So now my task for tomorrow is to look at the insurance policy. Due for renewal at the beginning of Jan but goign to try an beat the probably hike that's coming on the 21st when being female won't help me anymore! Plus I'm going to go for all the cashback bonuses for using the comparison sites :money:

  • So I've been looking at the car insurance today, and now I have a dilemma:

My renewal (Aviva) is going to be £420, and has £350 of excess

I've found a quote for £355 with A Choice, but the excess is £700  which is probably more than the car is worth :rotfl: and they get the terrible reviews for customer service.

So MSE pop quiz: £65 in the hand now? or possibly £350 less should anything go wrong?

My inclination is to stick with Aviva, but £65 is not small amount . . .

  • Hello lovely moneysavers!

    So update from the weekend:

I have an unexpected NSD on Friday which is always nice :T

Saturday was a bit spendy - picking up the last of the Christmas shopping. Still a couple of things left to do, but pretty much there.

And yesterday another NSD :T And I go all my present packing and Christmas cards done :T:T

Today I've got a few expenses - last Christmas present purchases, and some postage and then I'd done. And there isn't much reason for me to spend for the rest of the week, so I will try not to!

Hope everybody is enjoying Monday! As much as that's possible!

  • hi Karmachi

you're doign so well.. i would stick with Aviva. £700 is HUGE for excess in my opinion. and if they;ve got bad reviews for customer service...you're paying for bad service!

good luck with NSDs :) x

Thanks for dopping in Lurvlyloz! Yes I agree £700 excess is excessive (:rotfl: sorry that was terrible, wasn't it?!) and Aviva have a better reputation, not that I've had to test that in reality (thankfully)

  • Hello, may name is Karmachilovething and I am addicted to super market mark downs!

Ok, OK, I'm being very melodramatic, but I can't seem to get a health relationship with spending! I was in T3sco yesterday (buying some wine for a Christmas present) and I went "to see" what they had marked down. One 2kg chicken and a whole side of trout later . . . and now my freezer is full. And I have no boxes to put the stock (from the chicken carcass. Whenever I buy a whole chicken I break it down into legs, thighs and breasts and then stock from the rest. So glad my mum taught me that skill) that is bubbling away in my slow cooker right now.

OK, so it's not the worst problem to have, but the point is I didn't need it. I will eat it, and I'm sure in January I'll appreciate the full freezer very much, but it was not necessary to have a house full of food when I'm going away for two weeks!

    *sigh*

It's a process. I am relearning a healthy relationship with money, where I don't spend jsut because it's there. And it will get better. I am retraining my brain and it will take time. This is OK.

Right, sorry for my ramblings. Spends (planned) yesterday, and nothing really needed for the rest of the week, so hoping for NSDs till the weekend.

Also will have a (sensible!) think about what food is in the house and what needs eating before I go/what I should take with me to M&D's
