CR on a bill

hello
just looking for a bit of advice as i don't want to call my Gas company and sound stupid!! I have been paying for my gas using a prepayment meter for several years and its starting to cost me a fortune £60 has been pumped into it in a week!!anyway i went on line to see about changing to a credit meter and pay monthly when i noticed it said on my gas account £712.96CR...what does this mean? how can I be in credit on a pay as you go meter? and if it is my money can i ask the supplier for it back? it would be lovely as its Christmas! many thanks :)

Take a meter reading, call the supplier with it, and they should be able to recalculate your account and tell you the actual current position :)

Hi, you will need to phone. I would ask if you could have the meter taken out and then pay by DD. Swapping the meters over will cost you, then hopefully paying by DD will bring your bill down.
Wile on the phone ask if you are on the cheapest tariff for your area? you never know...

Your meter appears to be taking more money than you use or perhaps still set to collect for a debt that has already been repaid? Whatever the cause they seem to owe you a fair sum now.

Dont necessarily accept that swapping meters will cost you - some companies will do it for free. Shop around if you have to.

If the meter was imposed upon you for debt they may however be reluctant to remove it.

Either way they may wish to do a credit check and / or require a deposit from you in order to change to a credit meter.

Irrespective of all of that if you are in credit you are entitled to ask for a refund of your money yes.

A PPM costs the same as the supplier's Standard tariff.
