Broken in to but didn't make a claim -do I need to disclose?

Options
Three weeks ago thieves broke in to my home as I slept via two UPVC doors and took my car keys and stole my car. As my buildings and contents excess was 250, I didn't claim for the cost of the new locks which was 220. The locks were changed under a separate emergency repair policy I have.

My insurance is up for renewal next month- do I need to disclose the break in even though I didn't make a claim? I had Eurolocks on the doors which are now known to be breakable but I now have anti snap locks and sash jammers too.

Thanks

Most policies and quote applications require you to report losses as well as claims. Check your policy wording then it's your call as to whether you comply!
  • Home insurance less often asks about losses as I doubt many people dont break at least one thing in their home or drip or spill wine/ coffee/ tea in the average year all of which technically are losses that may be covered by insurance.

To play it by the book you would need to check if they ask for claims or losses, if it is the later then you should declare it
  • Thanks for your replies, now I'm sure of what the difference is, some sites just ask for claims, others ask for losses even if a claim isn't made.
    Thanks again!

the other thing to consider is that the separate emergency repair policy (under which you did make a claim) might have recorded that on the CUE database
