I'd go for a Canon or Nikon (Canon are usually a bit cheaper).

What reason are you wanting 12+mp DSLR and mega pixel value isn’t as important as it is in none SLR cameras you should be looking to buy high quality lenses.
I also believe that you are asking in the wrong place, if you want a DSLR with such a high mp value you shouldn’t be on a money saving website as you can spend a fortune.
If money was no object I would be buying a Nikon D2Xs (£2500ish) or a Canon EOS 1Ds mark 2 (£4500ish) and the pro lenses but your talking stupid amounts of money. you can pay over £6500 for a single lenses you know the type that sports photographers use at football matches.
So unless you have just won the lottery you need to decide what your looking for how much you seriously want to spend are you going pro or amateur, enthusiastic amateur.
The basics are like the EOS 400D or the Nikon D40 both for about £400
The next stage up is the EOS 30D and the Nikon D200 between £900 and £1000
Canon has the 5D in the mix which is between the 30D and the 1D
The lenses almost all use the same connector so you could start with the 400D and work your way up just selling the body each time and use your lenses on your new camera you just need to stick with the same manufacturer.
I would stick to the big 2 Nikon or Canon after all those are the choice of the pros.0 -
Don't get carried away with 12MP.
I would recommend full frame sensor, but not everyone agrees on this point. It depends on your kind of photography. Some love the idea that a factor of 1.5, but landscape photographers would not.
Below is the most comprehensive forum for photographers. There are Nikon & Canon sites.

Ask there, they are knowledgable and helpful.
If I had to choose, and I had no existing lenses to worry about becoming redundant I think I would buy Canon 5d, but not without going to the website above and asking many questions. You certainly will get the feel for the general opinion of that camera there.
Just be aware that reviews on places like dpreview can sometimes be misleading. They have the camera for a short period of time and cannot always report all known faults or overcome workaround either. IMHO always best to speak with people who have bought the camera, are using it. Have a look at the above website forum. It is excellent.0 -
As others have hinted, there is no right answer for your question, possibly the best way to an answer is to ask what you'll be using your camera for?
Especially when you get into the £2K+ league the camera's start to become tailored to a type of photography (action, wildlife, landscape).
But if you are just looking at the basic entry level crop, then the best bit of advice I can give you is to get out there and pick one up. Go down to Jessops and get one in your hands.
Broadly speaking they all do a great job, so if there's a function / feeling about 1 camera, go for it. People will endlessly argue the toss over which is best, but this is really just an indication of how close they all are in terms of quality.
If it helps, in the entry level cams, Nikon seems to have taken the lead in the magazine reviews recently. (but Canon had the lead when I bought my nikon, so don't worry too much!)

Canon for me, the range is slightly better and about 70% of the photographers round the pitch at the reebok today were using canon cameras.
Invest in the quality lenses the pro range are hugely improved over the cheaper ones.0 -
Look at the Nikon D800
