Current regs on a bog standard 210 litre allow for a loss of 2.56 kWh loss per [934 kWh pa] day, so you can immediately see the current regs are set at an incredibly low 30%pa value. Any alert and thinking individual fitting a new cylinder would make sure its 90%+ efficiency but government are still at the 70% level with the exception on PartL E7 installs. Get one of these cheepo's and you'll soon find that even with ThermoWrap the boss and pipework losses remain high, so if you are going to make the worthwhile investment in lagging the tank .. .. go the extra mile and do the pipework too.
My point ? - you could get two not one layers of ThermoWrap in the same space it takes to put one el-cheepo insulation jacket if you can afford it, if you cant afford the good stuff at least fit the el-cheepo.
- follow up - cheap as chips at the moment REM the flat side down ~ bubbly side up
BTW, here's their 'proper' radiator' / night store heater stuff, I have two layers [2mm] of this exact [product behind mine, that's the equivalent of a uber big fat two inches of the Polystyrene version. Catering foil also does a very good job, but make sure its catering [15 to 25 microns] quality, not the cheepo we can all buy retail.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. If you don't have E7 then just leave it on 24/7. The thermostat will stop it from overheating and you will always have hot water. It will cost you a few pennies more per day over timed.
Yeah I'm thinking that if I'm having it on overnight for 8 hours five days a week, and 15 minutes each evening, then half an hour on weekends, then I can't imagine it being that much different having it on 24/7.0 -

I couldn't get the big thick jacket I bought round the back of the tank because of it's proximity to the back wall, so something like that radiator foil or catering foil might be the way to go. And with it being foil, I'm guessing it would be easy to fit too.0 -

- two different things Ian
- the catering foil [several thickness's of] is for behind the storage radiators
- the B&Q reference is also for wrapping a tank, use this to 'bond' the edges and help zero the lossesDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
