    Hi there
My sister and I enjoy doing CBS and also enjoy going to them. I'm actually going to one as a buyer tomorrow in Finmere. QUOTE]

    Hiya
What is the car boot sale like at Finmere ?
I have been to the market on a few occasions but never yet to the CBS.

Is it about the size of the market ?
What is it like compared to MK Bowl CBS ? (which is HUGE in summer)

    Hi there.
The CBS can be quite big but really depends on the weather (as with ALL CBS!) The one I went to last Saturday was good. Some great stuff and some really cr*py stuff but people were asking silly low prices for some really decent stuff. I bought 10 books from one stall in good condition and in the shops about 3 for £10 at Tesco and I got them for 10 pence each! I personally think that 50 pence each for books in good condition.
No, it's not as big as the MK Bowl one but I think that is good really as I've found the MK Bowl one can be TOO big as people just have too much to look at.
Also, I have never been to the Finmere Sunday market so I don't know how big that is....sorry!

I've just quit my job & CBS are going to be my new job until my baby is 2 so he can go to nursery! We'll be doing our 1st next weekend & I'm hoping it will be lots of fun & we can spend more time together!

Unless sum1 makes me a great offer for him, then I can always visit!:rotfl:

  • Hi All,
Really enjoyed really enjoyed reading this thread.

Im gonna be doing a carboot in or around Banbury (Fairly close to Finmere) so I dunno how much its gonna cost, but Im doing it for the extra cash. Im 19 so still own a hell of alot of kiddies books, and clothes that dont fit. Im just gonna try not label anything and go with the flow. Alot of new t-shirts that I treasure and so on.

I hope I make enough to cover the car cost :P

Aaaand enough to make me wanna do it again

    Enjoy your carboots :)

    xx

This could be the last fine weekend of the year weather-wise so we're hoping to do our last CBS of the year on Sunday as sellers. Our local one charges about £8 per car (slightly more for vans) which I think is the going rate around here (Herts).

Agree with all the tips above, especially the bits about avoiding the dealers who jump into your boot as soon as you pull up - I usually set up my table and clothes rail to mark out my pitch, then lock the car until they've gone, or sit in the car and have a cup of tea (with the boot locked) telling the more persistent ones to come back later. They soon get bored and move off.

It's very tempting when you first pull up to your pitch to start getting everything out and setting up straight away, after all you've got so much lovely stuff and you can't wait for people to see it all and start buying from you. However, the first people you will see will be the dealers and they will always always ALWAYS try to con you out of your stuff for next to nothing. My golden rule is that if they are interested in something of yours then it must be worth more then they are offering, so stick to your guns, tell then that you are not ready to start selling yet and ask them to come back later. Most won't but TBH you're better off hanging out for a decent price then letting your collectables to to some joker who will resell them at a vast profit.

I've said this on other posts before but I once had a dealer who opened my boot before I'd even switched off the engine and got out of the car. I chased him off with some sharp words and never saw him again!

Definately take your own food & drink and avoid being tempted by the dodgy bacon butties on offer.

Don't try to do a CBS on your own, go with a friend or set up on your own but have someone come along to help out later so you can have a break - it's tiring being on your feet for four to six hours, plus your bladder will soon start screaming for mercy!!

Also take lots of change (you'll be amazed at how many people will hand you a £20 note for something that costs 50p at 7am!) and I usually take one of those security pens that marks fake banknotes, not that I've been caught out yet.

Also take carrier bags but dont give them away to people who havent actually bought anything from you (again, plenty of buyers and even some sellers have asked me for bags in the past without buying anything first!).

Good luck to everyone selling this weekend!! I hope you make some money :D (I need to pay for my Beyonce tickets somehow.......:o)
