Hi everyone, MFW #30 checking in.
Sorry I have been MIA for a wee while. Well after the trauma of going through redundancy consultation and finally coming through the other side and finding out before Xmas that I had a job, I have now found out that I am very unexpectedly pregnant with our 3rd child. This baby is quite a shock and will be due 2 weeks before my 40th birthday!
As a result of this, I MAY have to trim back my expectations of OPing £6000 this year as I need to build up a slush fund to tide us over maternity leave.
However, Jan OP was £509.99 - a strange figure I know but I like to have my mortgage at a round number!
Hope everyone's off to a flying start in 2013.Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000
Current mortgage £28,0000 -
Thanks for the thanks everyone - just need to keep at it and trim some things down. Not much to trim down though really.... hmmm have to think about what i can do without.0

Option B for me as I have no limit on OPs so a lower minimum gives me peace of mind. Our minimum was nearly £900 when we first bought house. It's now £501- and we have drawn money back a couple of times too. This means that if either of us lose our jobs we can manage (just) on either salary. This was the only reason we didn't have to worry when I was on maternity.
I'm motivated by seeing the balance go down so overpay as much ss we can while still enjoying life2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

Originally, we would have gone with option A, but our circumstances have now changed in that we are starting a family, so we have changed to go with option B.
Our thoughts are that when the fixed term comes to an end in March we will try to continue to pay the usual amount, but as opposed to being a fixed payment, it will be a lower payment topped up by an OP (which can be stopped if income decreases further).
But I will say, if it wasn't for MSE and the MFW forum, we wouldn't even have the choice to start with.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
Hi, wondered if I could join you all? I've facing a bit of uncertainty with my job at the moment, and it's really brought into focus that my wage basically covers the mortgage and the £125 overpayment we make each month, and little else, all the rest is down to OH's salary! If we could pay off the mortgage then I wouldn't feel so vulnerable to the whims of my employers.
We have two endowments from previous house purchases that originally should have been worth £85000, but we'll be lucky to see £50K when they mature in 2016.
OH thinks I'm mad for wanting to tie up all our extra cash, especially as we seem to be stretched ever further financially of late, but I'd really like to do is reduce our mortgage so far that we can use the endowments to pay off the balance when they mature.
We currently have £20000 in an offset account which brings our theoretical balance down to £75.541.32 as of today, so hopefully it's do-able!!
I hope to overpay another £475 each month into the offset account, to bring the total to £600/month or £6000 for the rest of the year. That's if I can manage to hold onto my job or find another one:(#21 Save £12k in 2025 £16977.35/£20000
