Balance transfer question

I'm transferring a balance from my M&S card to a 0% Barclaycard offer, and wondered what would happen if I transferred more than the balance of the card? Would the overpayment be refunded to my bank account from M&S or will it be returned to Barclaycard?

Are you planning a 'significant' overpayment?...or are you simply not sure whether to include an upcoming M&S minimum payment in your Barclaycard request?

They probably won't refund it if it's £1000+ and they may just give you offer of returning the whole amount to BC if you ask for a cheque. Don't assume you can generate cash by doing this as it could backfire
  • We did it (accidently) by about £100 odd quid and it was refunded back to us.

Thanks , I was thinking about £500 or so, but I guess they will know what I'm trying to do!
  • I wouldn't try it.

It's a breach of terms to deliberately put a CC account in credit.

CC companies are not authorised to act as deposit takers so they can get very uppity about it, particularly if the amount is significant.

If you over pay by that much, they may bounce the entire payment back to where it came from, not just the overpayment.
