However the Post office sent the item as standard 2nd Class instead

Then you should refund the recorded element of it at least.

as the amount included my time

If you are paying yourself a wage that is taxable. So - don't overload the postage with this rubbish, buyers don't like it, and your stars will be trashed.

Your buyers are what keep you afloat - so it makes more sense to tack to what they want rather than what you feel is necessary. You can't afford to annoy people who pay you for something (just like you wouldn't overcharge a client at work or mess about on your boss's time) and the more you augment postage the more you become uncompetitive and lose sales in general.

If it cost 2.20, then refund all but about 2.40 or 2.35.
    Why?
    A cost is a cost,especially if you are a registered business,what a stupid comment.
As for "buyers don't like it", its about time they were told hard luck!
All the time people like you pander to it the more they (the buyer) will penalise anyone that dare charge for p&p.The people that moan on ebay are the same buyers that buy online elsewhere and quite happily happily pay p&p without a care.
Buyers SHOULD understand that it costs more than just the stamp price.
Ebay allow both free p&p and 'paid for' post and packing.
Why do they allow the sellers that choose to charge any price,(whether cheaper than cost or more than cost,) to run the risk of trashed stars?
Ebay are deliberately favouring the free post sellers,if they allow both methods then there should be no difference in DSR's.
Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!
  • I would be annoyed if I paid extra for something and didn't get it so yes you should refund and if you are a private seller (as registered on ebay not one of these "private" sellers who are actually a business but feel the trading and don't apply to them so aren't registered), you cannot charge for your time unless you are declaring that as income to hmrc. All these people saying buyers should deal with it, I have run a business for a very long time on Ebay and yet the one thing that stops me getting discount on my fees is my postage star rating. I offer free postage most of the time or 50p maximum over the costof a stamp (fragile items need a lot of packaging) and yet I still can't hit the target ebay have set. Unfortunately for us self employed, we have to pander to the wants of buyers if we want to eat and keep a roof over our heads! Next time you complain to a major retailer, see if they tell you "hard luck".
  • As a buyer if I pay for recorded delivery then that's what I should get. Pretty clear no?
  • Agree with the above. If I'm paying for recorded I would feel cheated if the item just turned up second class. I would expect my feedback to reflect this also.
If you change nothing, nothing will change!!
  • it's not the buyer's fault that it was sent ordinary 2nd class. Post Office c@cked it up and seller (OP) failed to notice. Refund
