thanks to all have posted with your helpful advice, it is very much appreciated. Just to answer a couple of points on here, as it seems to have got heated at certain points in certain posts.
Please do not be too quick to judge people when I have tried to be brief and not go into too much details on such a public forum about my BIL. He was married but has been divorced for 6 years and has a 10 year old son who he has every weekend, without fail. my BIL is a skilled craftsman and due to a terrible accident a few years ago where he lost fingers on both hands is now unable to work in the area that he is skilled and therefore is unable to work not only due to having what seems to be Bi-Polar but also the pain and condition of his hands. Anyway enough said.
Update, housing association have been excellent and are calling us on Monday with a view to getting temp housing till they are able to find him a property, they have not taken the view that he has made himself voluntary homeless at all and are able to see the situation for what it truly is, due to his mental health. He also now has an appointment with a Psychiatrist (sp...sorry)!! next week to hopefully get his mental condition in order...so thanks to all those who have been supportive, given helpful worthwhile abuse and not judged the fragile and vunerable state of my Brother In Law.
Kind regards.0 -

I'm really glad you're moving forward with this and that what sounds like reliable help is appearing for you and your BIL

Maybe even more good has come out if this thread as maybe some of those that are quick to judge or generalise may think twice in future.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My son suffers from depression and narolepsy amongst other things and can not manage his finances either. I have had very minor bouts of depression caused by worrying over my children etc. During these times I can not read, words swim in front of me, I can not comprehend them. I can not do housework I do not know where to start. I sometimes can not get out of bed I feel too weary. Thank God I do not feel that way right now but I understand mental illness is not something that you want and not working is certainly not laziness. My son has told me that he would rather have cancer ,God forbid, a physical illness that people can comprehend and understand why he can not keep down a job.
I am appalled at the person who blames the !!!!less and lazy and would wish a mental illness on her for just one day to see how it feels. Taffy0 -
Good God, This is my second post on here just now and I do not know how these forums work properly. I missed the threads about his accident and about the bi-polar illness. I am so glad that you have found help for him as he can not do it on his own, it is overwhelming to him until he gets properly treated for the bi-polar situation. It just goes to show you can not judge a book by it's cover and how quick some people jump in because they work (lucky them I am sure this guy is thinking!!!!!!) and because they live in a smaller place than him. This man would give anything to be back in work and doing a job he did well and wouldn't care, I am sure, about how small the place that he lives in would be. Get a social worker to come out and see this man and if a member of the family could be with him because I guarantee he will not remember, comprehend or follow up on what he has been told.
Good on you sister in law for helping out and understanding. Sorry for the rant and not the best way to introduce myself. Taffy0
